Gholtogh carpets are handmade in the northwestern province of Zanjan, Iran, in Iranian Azerbaijan. These distinctive carpets are characterized by striking colors made from natural dyes, intricate designs and high-quality, hand spun wool. Many Gholtogh carpets use the traditional mahi Herati motif, which is comprised of rosettes, vine scrolls and leaves that resemble fish leaping out of the water.
